18 January 2019Smart Glasses for Maintenance and Logistic, what can they do for us?
3 February 2019Smart Glasses
We sometimes stumble onto terms such as Smart Glasses, Smart Technology, IoT, AR, VR, ecc., but what are they exactly? And what is their potential?
Smart Glasses means electronic wearable device able to provide support to problem-solving tasks through complex procedures.
They are composed by electronic parts and software able to play mobile applications, record and play video and audio, recognize the natural language, shapes and objects, layering virtual contents to the real field of view of the user. This is possible towards advanced displays integrated onto device special lens.
Currently, Smart Glasses are coming into a maturity technology phase and according to some credentialed market research institutes, including Digi-Capital, within 2023 this business will reach sales heels for 2,5 billion headsets for augmented reality worldwide with about 75$ billion revenue, and 30 million standalone devices installed base for virtual reality with 15$ billion revenue.
Meaningful numbers which let us think about the current hi-tech and wearable market direction and about the emerging consumers’ needs overall.
Categories
Smart Glasses are divided into three categories, for augmented reality, for virtual reality and for mixed reality.
AR, VR and XR provide the way to create parallel realities able to amplify our perception of the world but are different into the depth perception and into the immersive way able to provide.
Augmented Reality
AR amplifies the real world layering digital contents and adding information to the surrounding area.
Augmented reality has been designed to keep the connection between the user and the real world.
Virtual Reality
VR creates a digital environment which replaces the real world, completely.
Virtual reality has been designed to create the depth illusion transforming images into a unified 3d world experience.
Mixed Reality
XR mixes the physical reality and virtual one layering them through the augmented reality.
Design
According to the statistics, in the next future, AR Smart Glasses will be less flashy and designed for daily use, lightweight and comfortable to wear both for workers and for consumers.
Several application possibilities for different tasks progress, notifications receipt, remotely display sharing, objects and persons viewing through advanced lenses, this and still more will be an unquestionable trend for the most addicted consumers in the next months.
This will represent an important step ahead also for all companies which aim to improve their performances relying on the support of computing smart wearable devices.
So within 2020 Smart Glasses will land on the consumer market, while the enterprise market is increasing considerably and forecasts are very promising.
